The next in a continuing series of reviews of some of the legendary first sites in the online casino market is Casino Tropez. Now, right away, just the name makes you think of a swanky, European destination where tuxes are a must in the casino, and where luxury is all around you. Of course, you don’t need to throw on a tux to play at this casino (although maybe throwing on a pair of shorts wouldn’t hurt…).
Does this casino’s offering make you feel like you are over in Monte Carlo? More importantly, is Casino Tropez good enough to be considered a legit casino by our standards? I am going to answer these questions and more with this honest review of the casino site.
About Casino Tropez
Casino Tropez was established all the way back in 2001. This was still part of the early age of online casinos; some sites were up and running as early as 1997, but by 2001 the industry had settled a bit, and the big rush was on to start online sites. Since then, so much has changed in the world of technology, and from first glance, it would appear that these guys have done what they can to stay modern. Their website looks like it has been updated recently, and that is always a good sign in the online casino world.
It appears that this casino has had the same owner the entire time, although it is never 100% certain given all the fake names and numbered companies involved. Along those lines, there is a quote from their manager Mike Caesare (hmm) about the integrity of the site. This is indeed backed up by having certification from GLI, one of the top software auditing firms. The casino also has a license from the Malta Gaming authority; this regulatory body is well-respected around the world and takes their due diligence process very seriously, so that means an added layer of security for the players at this casino.
Who Can Play at Casino Tropez?
Unfortunately, when a casino receives a Malta license, it usually means it is time to shut off access to their games for many countries across the globe. As a result, you may be reading this review in vain; if you live in one of the following countries, then you are not able to play at Casino Tropez at the present time:
- Afghanistan
- Antigua And Barbuda
- Netherlands Antilles
- Australia
- Barbados
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Bahamas
- Belize
- China
- Cuba
- Cyprus
- Germany
- Denmark
- Dominica
- Estonia
- Spain
- Finland
- France
- United Kingdom
- Greece
- Guyana
- Hong Kong
- Haiti
- Israel
- Iraq
- Iran
- Jamaica

- Latvia
- Macau
- Montserrat
- Netherlands
- Philippines

- United States
Software Suppliers
Casino Tropez remains a casino-only site, even as so many of their competitors added other products over the years. This allows the site to focus on what they know – providing excellent casino games and promotions that best suit the casino player.
The site has chosen to partner with Playtech for their casino offering. This is probably the best decision the company ever made. Playtech has been the industry leader in casino software for almost two decades; they built a fantastic backend platform which allows operators to manage their business properly. The front-end games development is second-to-none, featuring excellent graphics and stellar content, which we will review in more details a little later on in this review.
Playtech’s games are available as a graphics-rich download or in flash instant play options. Also, many of the games have been formatted to be able to be played using your mobile device so you can keep the gaming experience going as you make your way on the road!
The Good Stuff
Progressive Jackpots
This is a running theme for me when I write site reviews. I believe that large jackpots are a great way to attract players to any site, and when you hit the homepage of the Casino Tropez site, you see right away how important they are to the marketing team. There is a scrolling banner right in the middle of the page announcing the running total of jackpots available on the site; at the time of this review, it was approaching USD 80,000,000! That is a crazy amount of money available to be won in jackpot games. Leading the way in this is, of course, the jewel in the Playtech crown, Jackpot Giant, whose total hovers around $10 million at press time.
Promotions
The operators who got into the business early seem to have had more creative juices when it came to promotion ideas. This trend has stuck around at Casino Tropez. As you will see when I discuss them I n a little more detail, the team at this casino spreads the promotional love across the casino, giving players of all calibers and games the chance to make a few extra bucks while at the tables.
The Bad Stuff
Bully tactics for account opening
When I review a site, I like to give all the pages a read before I create an account – I want to see what the casino is willing to tell me before I am a member, then see what additional offers I receive by registering an account. When I went to the Casino Tropez site, I was met with a signup screen that I had to complete to access the website itself. This can be very discouraging to a new player; I hope the casino will see fit to remove this step to make the introductory session less frustrating.
Withdrawal Limits
This stuff still drives me crazy. If you are going to spend a significant amount of space and time promoting your huge progressive jackpots, you can’t put heavy restrictions on how much money a player can withdraw. I understand that the limits allow the casino to protect against scammers, but that is also what the pending period is for – to investigate any wrongdoing. I came across this text in the Terms and Conditions of the site:
You are aware of and agree that players are allowed to withdraw not more than $9,990/£9,990/€9,990/AU$9,990/R99,900/DKK74,990/NOK74,990/SEK99,900/ZAR99,900 per month. if the amount to be withdrawn is greater than $9,990/£9,990/€9,990/AU$9,990/R99,900/DKK74,990/NOK74,990/SEK99,900/ZAR99,900 the remaining amount will be placed back to the player’s account, allowing the player to withdraw additional funds the following month in accordance with this term.
Game SelectionOk, let’s get to the meat of this review. Without great casino games, I am not sure why anyone would make a deposit at a site in the first place. Fortunately for you, Casino Tropez uses Playtech, so this will not be an issue for you here.
Slots
The Playtech Slots catalog runs over 200 titles, and in there you will find some of the most dynamic content of any of the online casino providers. The company has done marketing deals with several entertainment brands including Marvel; the result of this is a series of branded slots that do a great job crossing over characters from mainstream media into the casino world.
You already know that there are a ton of jackpots to be won; here are a bunch of slots titles that I have tried in the past and I think you will enjoy if you give them a try:

Table Games
I have been playing Playtech games ever since I first came across them in the early 2000s; I was first drawn to the speed and detail of the table games, and they continue to be one of the best you will find almost two decades later. Not only do they have all the traditional games covered, but they also offer some interesting variants of games. One game in particular that I love is Blackjack Switch; for a commission, you are able to switch cards between the two hands you are dealt. For me, that makes the game even more fun, even if it actually gives the house a little more of an edge.
Here are the games you will find in the Table Games section of the Casino Tropez lobby:
- Blackjack Surrender
- Blackjack
- American Blackjack
- Perfect Blackjack
- Blackjack Pro
- Double Attack Blackjack
- Lucky Blackjack
- Baccarat
- Casino War
- Red Dog
- Roulette
- Craps
- Pai Gow Poker
- Poker Three
- Single Deck Blackjack
- Caribbean Poker
- Sic Bo
- Pontoon
- Around the World
- Let Them Ride
- Blackjack Switch
- Casino Hold ‘Em
Live Casino
Being a Playtech licensee means that operators get access to all the new games that the company builds, including the new Live Dealer options. Players at Casino Tropez can choose to play some table games with a live dealer via webcam; Playtech has a studio filled with tables and dealers to give you a more land-based feel to the games.
You can try the following games via webcam (don’t worry, they can’t see you):
- Blackjack
- Sic Bo
- Baccarat
- Casino Hold’em
- Roulette
Video Poker
If you have ever been to a live casino, you will see how popular Video Poker has become; the machines are everywhere, stopping short of allowing you to play while you are in the restroom (although can that be far off?). I am a big fan of the game; it is more challenging than a slot machine, while not forcing me to sit at a poker table for hours at a time. Playtech has a great selection of video poker titles; if you play the games with correct strategy, you can virtually eliminate the house edge, giving you a great chance to walk away a winner:
- 2 Ways Royal
- Two Way Royal
- Jacks or Better (10 hands)
- Jacks or Better (1 hand)
- All American
- Aces and Faces (1-4 hands)
- Jacks or Better (50 hands)
- Aces and Faces (1-4 hands multi-play)
- Deuces Wild (1-4 hands multi-play)
- Deuces Wild (1-4 hands)
- Jokers Poker (kings or better multi-play)
- Pick ‘Em Poker
- Jokers Poker (kings or better)
- Tens or Better
- Mega Jacks — Progressive
- Jacks or Better — Multihand
- Jacks or Better — Progressive
- Aces and Faces (25 hands)
Specialty Games
There is a whole section of games designed to be more entertainment than gambler-friendly; these Specialty Games are super easy to play and usually have lottery-style odds to them. If you are looking for a break from the table games and slots, then you can give one of these a try:
- Derby Day Horse Racing
- Dice Twister
- Heads or Tails
- Jackpot Darts
- Mahjong
- Mega Ball
- Pachinko
- Penalty Shootout
- Rock Paper Scissors
- Roller Coaster Dice
- Tequila Poker
- Wild Viking
- Bingo
- Casino Reels
- Final Score
- Genie’s Hi Lo
- Knockout
- Wheel of Light
- Keno
- Bonus Bowling
Promotions
I mentioned earlier that this casino has a great selection of promotions; I won’t bore you with all of them here, but I do want to highlight a couple of them, so you know what level of detail the casino goes to attract your deposits.
Welcome Bonus
Saint Tropez Lyrics
The welcome bonus is the first chance a casino has to tempt you into becoming a real money player. At Casino Tropez, they use a multifaceted Welcome offer that lasts 28 weeks. Yes, you read that correctly, there is a 28 Week bonus offer for new players, amounting to over $3,000 in potential earnings. Here is the breakdown of the Welcome offer:
Download Casino Tropez or register for instant play and get started with our truly unique Payback Bonus. To help ease your mind and reduce the risk of any initial losses, you’ll get both a 100% match bonus up to $100 on your first deposit as well as a 50% refund up to $1,000 on all deposits you make on the same day as your first deposit.
After you’ve made your first deposit and played, you’re sure to want to keep coming back for more. To help you continue the winning fun, we’re giving you up to $200 free on your 2nd deposit.
Even if you won money with your first deposit, we’ll give you another chance with a 50% bonus of up to $200 on your second deposit. Again, your bonus is added to your account immediately after making your second deposit, allowing you to carry on playing blackjack, slots, roulette or any one of our many great online casino games with extra funds in hand.
To complete your Welcome Bonus and bring you up to the illustrious $3,000 bonus total, every Sunday for an incredible 27 weeks running, you are eligible to receive a 100% up to $100 bonus on your first deposit of the day. That’s a total of $2,700 in weekly bonus money, buying you many weeks of casino fun!
It is obvious why this is such a great offer; first off, the bonus max per week is set at $100, meaning you don’t have to load up on any one bonus to get the full amount of the offer. Second, having insurance on the first two deposits means that you have a backup plan if you end up losing the initial cash. I love the way this offer is set up; you should definitely take advantage of it.
$200,000 Adventure
This promotion, which appears to be a Playtech Network promotion (I have seen it at other casinos I have reviewed) gives you the chance to win some extra cash just by playing at certain slot machines during a three week period. What I like about this promotion is that everyone gets the same chance to win (the draws are random) and that it extends over three weeks before resetting for a new $200,000. Here are the details of the offer
There’s over 11,350 cash prizes to be won over 3 weekly draws – play in week 1 and 2 to win from pools of €50,000, and in week 3 the pool will be doubled to €100,000 .
All you need to do is play through €10 cash on the selected Adventure slots for each entry – but stake €10 on the selected slot of the week for double entries, that’s 2 entries for every €10 cash!
Entries to the Adventure are unlimited, and you can win more than one cash prize every week.
Selected Adventure slots: Legacy of the Wild, Age of the Gods: God of Storms, Robocop, Tiki Paradise, Roaring Wilds, Ice Cave
Selected double entry slots:
- Legacy of the Wild = 25th August to 31st August 2017
- Age of the Gods: God of Storms = 1st to 7th September 2017
- Robocop = 8th to 14th September 2017
If you are reading this and it is after September 14th, have no fear, there will be another giveaway starting soon, so just check promotions page for updated details.
Banking
Having a Malta Gaming license, along with being in business since the turn of the century, gives Casino Tropez a leg up on many of their competitors when it comes to payment options. Setting aside the ridiculous withdrawal limits, you have many ways to get your money to and from the casino. I am surprised not to see Bitcoin on the following list; perhaps they will be adding the cryptocurrency soon.

Comp Program
This casino offers a comp program to its real money players, rewarding you with points for playing your favorite games. Here is the rate at which you will accumulate 1 comp point, depending on what game you play (I appreciate that they have this table available, so you are fooled when you get to a game):
Bet Amount | Game |
---|---|
$9 | Slot machines and progressive slot machines |
$20 | Roulette games |
$20 | Card games* |
$30 | Video poker |
$30 | Blackjack Switch/Surrender |
$10 | All others |
This is very generous compared to other programs which barely give you any credit for playing table games. As for redeeming the points, although I dug through the Terms and Conditions, I could not find the conversion rate for the points.
VIP Program
Saint Tropez Beach Photos
Here is an area where the casino falls down a bit in my opinion. There is talk about their VIP Program, called Club Tropez. However, there are very few details of the program on their website. A good loyalty program is something that will attract a certain clientele that I believe every casino is after; not having the explicit details of qualification and rewards leaves me less than motivated to play on a regular basis.
Saint Tropez Clothing
On the site, the casino details that there are six tiers in the VIP Program, and with each level comes a higher level of both service and promotions. Before I can give this casino a top grade, I will need to see them expand this part of their offering.
Customer Service
Casino Tropez has a full staff in their customer service department that is available via several communication methods 24/7. This includes support in several languages, which is a nice touch, especially how many European markets they service.
If you need to contact the casino, you can do so via Live Chat (my recommended choice), email or by telephone (long distance charges will apply unless you live in Malta).
Would I Play at Casino Tropez?
I have to say, even though they have been in business since 2001, this casino shows no signs of letting up; they are offering players an excellent reason to come and play with them. The 28 week Welcome Bonus is unique, and the website is easy to navigate as well as being designed with a luxurious look and feel to it. I will say that the VIP program details leave a little to be desired, and while it will only affect a small number of players, the withdrawal limits are an issue. Overall, however, I like the attention to detail in the promotions, and the Playtech software is among the best in the business.
If you live in one of the areas that are not on the restricted list, then I can recommend Casino Tropez as a place for you to make a deposit or two.
